I have 2 SQL certified developers in my family, I will be the 3rd pretty soon. I was initially recommended "SQL in 10 minutes" book, and passed that recommendation on to others... but nobody ever made it through that book. Another friend decided to do New Horizons, what a horrible & overly expensive program! Short story, he still doesn't know much about SQL.While searching amazon for SQL, I stumbled upon the Joes2pros series, after waiting a bit I finally decided to pull the trigger. When I received the package, I immediately started on the first DVD and cranked through the first half. Not only was retention high for me, the videos were not boring, instructor does not put you to sleep at all, content is very well laid out & logical, no confusion whatsoever. Each DVD is split up into little bite-sized lessons, so you can go at your own pace or cruise through.
I couldn't be more happy the discovery of this course. My goal is one DVD disc per week (9 dvds total, all have 2 discs except DVD #1). Then I'll spend a week on review & take the test!

Reading Volume 1 and viewing DVD 1 as a review for the MS-SQL 70-432 exam. Very easy to read, and understand. Going to go through Volumes 2-5 of books and DVDs before May for MS-SQL 70-433. After that, get ready for SQL Server 2012.
I bought the first book in the series and was very impressed by its basic and easy to follow instructions. I then bought the entire series of books. The second book has some errors in it, and that makes it challenging to follow. I am only three chapters in and have found two problems. One example in the book has the incorrect table, and on the next page the CAST function is incorrectly shown. It was after turning to the next example that I was able to figure this out. Ironically, I wanted to watch the online tutorial the book recommends, but I kept getting an "error connecting to database" message. Hmmmm.
I was a music teacher for 12 years and wanted to change careers. I decided I wanted to get into SQL Server but new nothing about programming or SQL Server. I tried several other books and training programs and found them to be totally over my head. I needed something that would take me from ground zero to a passing score for exam 70-433. Joes2Pros is exactly what you will need if you are in my shoes. The books are easy to read and the best part are the labs at the end of each chapter. The labs let you practice what you have learned. Many other books have labs as well but they would always walk you through the answer and not let you try and figure it out for yourself first. Joes2Pros does give you the answer but in the form of a SQL script with detailed comments which I found very beneficial. One added benefit is that on several occasions I got stumped and sent an email to the author and he actually emailed me back. Pretty awesome. By the way, I passed my test last weekend. I give Joes2Pros my highest recommendation!!
