A dead body in a patch of long grass. Two skeletons nearby. Is it just a coincidence?
DS Dave Slater is bored. With nothing more to investigate than a flasher and an illiterate counterfeiter, he yearns for some excitement. But, when a dog walker make’s a discovery near a local woodland Slater thinks he should be careful what he wishes for.
When Slater, and colleague DS Norman Norman, hurry to the scene they find a woman’s battered body in a patch of long grass. But there are no tracks or signs of disturbance, so how did she get there?
Even as they are examining the scene a dog makes another grim discovery in nearby woods and before they know it they have two more dead bodies on their hands – and worse, the victims are all related! As the investigation proceeds, a complex web of connections emerges, making it a tough job to nail the killer. Or, is there more than one?
To deliver justice for the dead, Slater and Norman must go digging into the past, but on top of this, someone is causing trouble in the detectives once close-knit team, and when accusations start flying, Slater finds himself at the centre of the sort of scandal that can end a career.

The Slater-Norman stories are witty, believable, and an excellent source of entertainment to read. I have enjoyed each book of adventures. I am reading the third book in this series. There are on occasion a few redundant phrases that I think the author could reinvent or rephrase instead of using a single line more than once per book. But other than this, I am a happy reader of P.F. Ford's books.Product details

Just a Coincidence Slater and Norman Mystery Series Book 2 edition by PF Ford Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
This was better than his first book. The characters were the same but with the normal human improvements. I look forward to all of the sequels.
This is a good interesting book. For its genre I think it's a five. Would I compare to crime and punishment no. A pleasant book that has heightened suspense. You must read the whole book to appreciate it
I have really enjoyed all of the Dave Slater Mystery novels. I've read them all. My only complaint is that the books need to be better edited. The grammar and use of wrong or unnecessary words is distracting.
Being introduced to the D.S. Dave Slater series with book 1 & then continuing on to the 9th book in the series I found that all books were an interesting & captivating read with an ongoing theme that made you want to continue on to the next book. The plots were feasible while at the same time wove you into the semi private lives of the characters. When you come to the end of a book & then quickly look to order the next book then one would have to say that the author was successful.
I really like this Dave Slater series. The writing style is really professional and at the same time really amusing and interspersed with amazing British slang. I'm British and even I did not know there were so many different slang words for...."it".
I am looking forward to reading the next book.
The plot isn't bad. The characterization isn't bad. The writing style, unfortunately, is the utter reverse of "show, don't tell" as the writer's maxim. The narrative is stilted stylistically, takes place from the protagonist's POV, and spends really a lot of time musing about what's going on in Dave Slater's head. Unfortunately, his head is a rather boring place.
Considering five stars to be an A, I would have to rate this book an A-. The writing is excellent and the plot very tight. I like the protagonist and the manner in which he relates to the other characters, many of which are fleshed out as well. I like the relationship they have with their superior, who in many books is made out to be either a tyrant or an imbecile. This superior is respected and has a good relationship with his men. The only problem I have with this book (that kept it from an A) is that several of the plot lines are left unresolved. I suppose this is the way it happens in real life, but I do like closure at the end of a book. Perhaps Ford is leaving those threads dangling so that he may return to them in a subsequent volume. I hope so.
The Slater-Norman stories are witty, believable, and an excellent source of entertainment to read. I have enjoyed each book of adventures. I am reading the third book in this series. There are on occasion a few redundant phrases that I think the author could reinvent or rephrase instead of using a single line more than once per book.
